Getting Together for ‘Mural’ Support
There are folks among us who still remember the ride – that classic jaunt through the summer countryside, smokestack puffing, its iconic whistle announcing to all that the Blue Goose is rumbling down the tracks.
The “Goose,” as it’s still affectionately known, delighted locals and visitors as an excursion train in what can arguably be viewed as a heyday of sorts for Cottage Grove, from 1971-88. These days, a dedicated group of Goose fans has endeavored to keep the spirit of the old train alive in mural form.
Yes, Cottage Grove loves a mural, and Goose supporters know that we’ll love a mural of the train that’s planned to adorn a new restroom at Bohemia Park. We’ll be gathering here on June 6th, 2024, from 6-7:30 to support the mural’s fundraising effort, and we know you’ll want to join us. The evening will feature a guest appearance by Martin Hansen, a leading expert on the history of West Coast steam engines.
The mural will join the replica of the historic Water Tower, art displays, and the Splash Pad soon to be built at Bohemia Park, and it will be visible from 10th & Main Streets.
And here’s the best part – the mural was designed by our own Heather Endicott! Heather’s beautiful watercolors have adorned many of our beer labels, and with a mural to her credit, she’s joining the big time! At Thursday’s fundraiser, we’ll be slinging pints of our delicious Blue Goose IPA.
But if you can’t make it in person, you can always make a tax deductible contribution through the Cottage Grove Historical Society (please indicate “Goose Mural” on your donation) or directly at cghistory.org, by clicking the “Donate Now” next to the Goose Mural Project.
