COAST FORK CHRONICLES: Tessa’s Messing with Me!!!
She’ll offer a bright smile when you first walk in, but don’t be surprised if she’s messing with you before long.
Tessa Waldier is clearly one of the bright spots of a visit to the Brewstation, though once she gets to know a customer a bit, the ribbing undoubtedly begins.
“If they’re my age, I figure I can joke with them immediately, be a little funny,” she says. “If they don’t know what they want to order, I can tease them about that. It depends on who comes in and their personalities, because we cater to different types of people. I usually like to mess with them after they’ve been coming in here for a while.”
Count yourself among our lucky regulars, then, if Tessa’s giving you a bit of grief. But don’t take her jocular nature for timidity; when the situation warrants it, she’s also tough as nails.
“I don’t really get intimidated by people,” she says. “When people get stressed, they often show it. But I don’t show it; I just kinda deal with it, then stress out afterward. I’ll get the job done first, then cry about it later.”
At just age 23, Tessa credits making her own way in the world for her toughness under pressure. She moved to Oregon in eighth grade, eventually working a 10-6 graveyard shift in Eugene before coming to her boyfriend’s hometown of Cottage Grove.
Having worked at the Brewstation since June, however, she’s found a more relaxed atmosphere here and coworkers she pairs well with.
“It’s an easy job, and I get along with everybody,” she says. “Everyone’s kinda spunky, and does their own thing. We all work well together. It’s a fun atmosphere, and no one has problems with each other.”
She’ll recommend the Dark Sister sandwich to anyone who asks (it’s the pickled onions, of course), and despite pouring so many pints, she prefers red wine to beer. And now that she’s here, she has no plans to go anywhere soon.
“I plan to stay here until they don’t want me anymore,” she says. “I like it here; why would I want to leave?”
