“This feels like a very welcoming place, a family. And I like being part of that.”
If there’s one thing Amanda Perry-Duerst knows how to be part of, it’s family. Currently, she’s mom to three teenagers and all manner of critters – dogs, cats, guinea pigs, fish, etc. She’s recently celebrated two years of marriage with husband Dana, a lifelong Grover and “friend of the family” with deep community ties, and since May, she’s been a valued part of the Brewstation family.
In keeping with her love of family, she’s also quite fond of service and caregiving; she’s been bartending and serving since the age of 18, working at local hotspots including Steelhead Brewery, Koffee Kup and the Pink House, and she’s also found joy as a caretaker.
The route that brought her to us began at Steelhead, actually, where she worked with our bar manager, Anne Winter. She describes herself as ‘quite personable and chatty,’ which helps her fit in quite well around here. And as a longtime veteran of the industry, she says being part of a good team makes the job that much more enjoyable.
“Having owners that care about their employees and customers is huge,” she says. They know that it’s not all about money here – it’s about having a community space. Everybody’s happy to be here, to have a safe space with great food, great music, and great service.”
Amanda’s especially thrilled to be part of the great events we have here, and she says she loves listening to live music while she’s connecting with folks.
“It’s great meeting the bands and watching everybody have a good time,” she says. “I like remembering folks when they come back, asking what they’ve been going through. And I think it’s great that we welcome people who bring their dogs in. We love giving them treats.”
